For an investigation/inquiry on the performance space, on present and future theatres, here some contributions from architects and professionals who are involved in cultural and technical aspects of the theatrical project. At the G. De Carlo’s remarks, we add the more recent contributions from G. Decima and G. Molinari, just to note how/that the questions raised are, now that time has passed, almost the same; and even the past delivers us similar questions: “(…) I nostri teatri non soffrono descrizione, che per farci arrossire, e per impegnarci a correggerli. Da per tutto povertà, difetti, abusi. Vi sono calpestati i tre requisiti necessarj in ogni edificio, la solidità, la comodità, la bellezza”(F. Milizia, 1785). Architect Occhialini reminds us Brook questions to test and verify spatial qualities of any theatre space. The theme of the space ‘not in a theorical sense, but as an instrument’ is very important for the English director: the theatrical space cannot arise from a compositional exercise, or from the reprise of cultural models, but from the work: “It needs an activity searching for a theatre not a theatre searching for an activity” (Cruciani, Lo spazio del teatro).
