Guardare il “Tanztheater”: una riflessione sulla fruizione del teatro di Pina Bausch – Chiara Trifiletti – Stratagemmi 14
This contribution aims at analysing Pina Bausch’s theatrical activity as an example of some tendencies in contemporary performing art – with a special eye on the domains of emotionality and empathy. We tried to show how these domains have an influence on the methodologies of Pina Bausch’s creative work and on our ability to appreciate her format. The analysis starts off some formal aspects of Tanztheater which are characterised by a strong compositional synergy and result in an interconnection of corporal, visual and sonic elements that create peculiar and complex tempos and play structures. Hence, every element concurs to represent emotionality underlying the scenes. Emotionality, from which every scenic action departs in umpteen emotive nuances, is the true core of Pina Bausch‟s creative work. All this is then mis en scène through her original direction method: using the figurative power of the images represented, Pina Bausch does not just show: she evokes, suggests and refers to. The purpose of this contribution is to highlight how the performance involves the audience in a multisensory and synaesthetic way; the staging is where the artist’s creation meets the viewer’s sensitivity meets the public’s response. We feel that our interpretation has not being given enough recognition, despite it being key if one wants to adopt a different perspective when analysing Bausch’s work and her major contribution to contemporary theatre.
