Re-enactment is not a strictly theatrical issue: it arrives late in the performing arts, in the context of a reality trend that has swept the research scene since the beginning of the new millennium. In recent years, re-enactment has been converted into a dramaturgical field, becoming one of the distinctive forms of the “theaters of reality”, thanks also to the work of Milo Rau, who is one of the major experimenters and theorizers. The peculiar form of re-enactment of the International Institute of Political Murder is put in relation with the historical-theatrical legacy of the reality trend and with the declination of re-enactment of the other arts, thus questioning consolidated critical categories.
