In the creation Le songe de Médée (music by Mauro Lanza), the contemporary choreograph Angelin Preljocaj chooses a Medea, who represents the victim of an existential conflict. In his choreography, the myth symbolizes the challenge of every woman in any time: to reconcile her motherhood and her femininity, and to face more or less
consciounsly the “Medea’s complex” (as it is defined by Preljocaj himself). The plot’s simplification, the movements’ expressionism, the violence of the infanticide scene and the perfect harmony between dance and music are only some of the elements that contribute in making so interesting the analysis of this creation.
