In the theatre season 2015/2016 two particularly significant plays were shown, which display a new and radical re-emergence of the tragic on the contemporary scenery: Mount Olympus: To Glorify the Cult of Tragedy, by Jan Fabre, and Santa Estasi, directed by Antonio Latella. They are not simple new directions or re-adaptations, but brand new projects which aim at confronting with the very idea of tragic and at questioning on the possibility of its re-actualization. The two projects share on the one hand an extreme length (respectively, 24 and 19 hours), and on the other hand a reflection on the fruition dynamics. The two productions, while building a room for forced sharing, produce a small and irregular community experience, and explore tragedy’s potential to aggregate people in our contemporary world.
